Messi equals Pele's record and is the only top scorer in the Qatar World Cup

The Argentine star, Lionel Messi, equaled the number of legend Pele in the FIFA World Cup finals, during his match against his French counterpart, which brought them together today, Saturday, in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Messi scored the French net in the 23rd minute of the first half of the match at the "Lusail" stadium.

Messi raised his tally to 12 goals in the World Cup Finals with the "Tango" shirt, equaling the number of Brazilian soccer legend Pele.

Messi topped the Qatar World Cup scorer rankings with 6 goals, to break his partnership with French striker Clian Mbappe, followed by Argentine strikers Julian Alvarez and Frenchman Alivier Giroud with 4 goals each.

It is noteworthy that Messi became the first player to score in 4 copies of the World Cup with Argentina (2006, 2014, 2018 and 2022), surpassing Batistuta (1994, 1998 and 2002), and the legend Diego Armando Maradona (1982, 1986 and 1994), according to the “Opta” statistics network.

The following is a list of the best scorers of the World Cup finals:

German Miroslav Klose: 16 goals

Brazilian Ronaldo Nazario: 15 goals

German Gerd Mueller: 14 goals

French Just Fontaine: 13 goals

Brazilian Pele: 12 goals

Argentine Lionel Messi: 12 goals
