Iranian Foreign Minister: Washington Obliged to Prevent Israel from Undermining the Agreement

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the memorandum of understanding reached with the United States obliges Washington to prevent Israel from any actions that could undermine the agreement, warning of an immediate and decisive response to any threat targeting Iran.

Araghchi said in statements today Wednesday (July 1, 2026) that the memorandum "is clear and available to everyone, and obliges the U.S. president to rein in his allies in Tel Aviv," according to available information.

"Any threat targeting our people and leadership will be met with an immediate and decisive response."

Araghchi clarified that the memorandum represents an initial framework for de-escalation and opening the door to negotiations on security and nuclear issues and lifting sanctions, noting that it includes mutual commitments not to resort to force.

He added that negotiations will be completed to reach a final agreement within a specified timeframe, without providing additional details about that timeframe or implementation mechanisms.

This statement comes amid rising regional tensions, with no official comment yet from the U.S. or Israeli sides on the memorandum's content or the extent of Washington's commitment to its provisions.

For its part, the Iraqi government or Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not commented on the Iranian statements, despite their potential repercussions on regional security and stability in Iraq.
