Security sources reported on Wednesday the discovery of fragments and munitions belonging to air defense systems in Al-Sadr City and Palestine Street, east of Baghdad, with no civilian casualties recorded.

The security source said: 'Fragments of air defense munitions were found in Al-Sadr City, without any notable injuries.'

The source added that 'other air defense munitions fell in Palestine Street area, damaging two vehicles, one belonging to the Shrines Authority and the other to the general secretary of the shrine of companion Salman al-Mahmudi, with no injuries reported.'

Earlier today, the vicinity of the Green Zone in central Baghdad witnessed heavy gunfire at dawn after a drone was spotted flying over the area, according to the same sources.

No official statement has yet been issued by Iraqi security authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident or responsibility for the fragments falling in residential areas.

Concerns about repeated similar incidents raise questions about the effectiveness of safety procedures during the activation of air defense systems, especially given the lack of clear mechanisms to protect civilians, as fragments repeatedly fall in populated areas.

Citizens and activists demand an urgent investigation to determine responsibility and ensure such incidents are not repeated, which could result in human and material losses.
