Iranian Foreign Minister: US Threats Hinder Start of Final Agreement Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that talks aimed at reaching a final agreement between Iran and the United States will not begin as long as US threats continue, in response to statements by US President Donald Trump.

Araghchi wrote in a post on platform X on Tuesday, July 7, 2026: "Negotiations on the final agreement will not start if threats continue, and we call on the United States to respect its signature and adhere to what has been agreed upon." The Iranian minister referred to the interim agreement signed by Tehran and Washington last month, which stipulates that both sides refrain from threatening or using force during the negotiation period.

The last round of indirect talks between the two sides ended last week without any announcement of tangible progress toward a permanent agreement, despite the continuation of a temporary 60-day ceasefire. Mutual statements increase tension; earlier, US President Donald Trump had said that the United States "either reaches an agreement with Iran or ends the mission," affirming that the military option remains on the table but he prefers a negotiated solution.

Trump added that his country has the capability to target Iranian infrastructure if necessary, reflecting ongoing tension despite diplomatic efforts. The negotiations face major challenges that prevent reaching a comprehensive agreement to end the crisis between Iran and the United States.
