Iranian Parliament Speaker Announces Rejection of US Intervention in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf announced his country's refusal to allow the United States to intervene in the Strait of Hormuz, confirming that a navigation mechanism had been reached with Oman.

Qalibaf said in a press statement today Friday that "Iran has agreed with Oman on a navigation mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz based on paragraph five of the memorandum of understanding." He added, "Tehran will continue to implement the navigation mechanism in Hormuz and will consult with the littoral states of the territorial waters."

Qalibaf also said that Israel seeks to undermine the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, stressing that "Iran's deterrent capabilities in the region will prevent the resumption of war by the Israelis."

He did not elaborate on the details of the mechanism agreed with Oman or the nature of consultations with the states bordering the strait, which is a vital passage for global oil trade.
