Iraq: Understanding between the government and armed factions

Multiple political and government sources revealed an understanding between Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaydi and the leader of the Badr Organization, Hadi al-Amiri, which called for mutual de-escalation between the government and armed factions.

The understanding came after a dawn meeting between al-Zaydi and al-Amiri, during which they discussed threats issued by armed factions in response to Saudi Arabia.

The background was that security agencies had drawn up plans to carry out special operations targeting armed groups and parties suspected of involvement in attacks against Saudi Arabia.

Al-Amiri said in a video clip in which he urged Islamic resistance factions to postpone any military response to Saudi Arabia and to prioritize Iraq's supreme interest.
