Al-Zaydi Calls on Iraqi Businessmen in America to Invest in Nineveh Plains

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaydi called on Iraqi businessmen in the United States, especially from the Christian community, to invest in the education, health, oil sectors and the reconstruction of the Nineveh Plains.

The call came during al-Zaydi's meeting with representatives of the Iraqi Christian community and businessmen in the state of Michigan on Monday, where the two sides discussed prospects for expanding their participation in development and investment inside Iraq, and opportunities to diversify the national economy.

Al-Zaydi stressed that the government considers cultural and religious diversity a human wealth, noting plans to increase oil production over the next three years.

The meeting also touched on opportunities to open branches of American banks in Iraq to facilitate trade and investment, and to strengthen economic relations between Baghdad and Washington.

Despite al-Zaydi's affirmation of the government's commitment to protecting Iraqi components, his call comes at a time when the Nineveh Plains face security challenges and deteriorated infrastructure, raising questions about the readiness of the investment environment.

For their part, community and business representatives expressed their readiness to enter the Iraqi market and establish partnerships with the public and private sectors to support economic diversification.

However, the lack of clear details on legal guarantees and protection for investors may limit the effectiveness of these calls.

The meeting is part of al-Zaydi's official visit to Washington, where he seeks to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries, amid domestic demands to ensure transparency in project implementation and protection of public funds.
