Iraqi oil prices recorded a noticeable rise in global markets today Tuesday, according to daily trading data. The average Basra crude price reached $55.22 per barrel, while the heavy Basra crude price reached $53.32 per barrel, recording increases of 4.85% and 5.49% respectively.
Despite the rise, officials did not announce any direct impact of this increase on the general budget or government spending plans.
This increase comes amid rising global oil prices, where Brent crude recorded $84.29 per barrel, and West Texas Intermediate crude recorded $79.22 per barrel, but the local impact remains limited due to long-term sales contracts and previous financial obligations.
No statement was issued by the Ministry of Oil or the Ministry of Finance clarifying how to benefit from this price increase, or whether it will be reflected in the general budget or local development projects. The Iraqi government relies heavily on oil revenues to finance more than 90% of its budget, raising questions about transparency in managing these resources. It is noted that Iraqi oil sales contracts are often pre-priced, which reduces the immediate effect of daily global market fluctuations on the state's actual revenues.
